Tinkermyself is a Bangalore based startup founded by Richa Pandey. With this startup, she is trying to keep children away from gadgets.

As the parents are already busy and while they are free, they are engaged in gadgets. They should utilize the time which is being killed by the gadgets.

We got an opportunity to talk with Richa, the founder of Tinkermyself and see what she has to say? I am sure her interview with us will inspire you.

Richa: The founder of Tinkermyself

Give a brief info about your startup?

After losing my parents, I felt that how important and crucial is the role of a parent in the life of a child. This is what ignited me and made me think to help people to utilize their time to the best. The aim of my startup is to help children stay away from gadgets at public places and help parents spend quality time with them while they are free.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

Whenever I used to see children using mobile phones, watching videos while being in the company of their parents or grandparents. I felt I should do something about it.  As the parents are already busy and while they are free, they are engaged in gadgets. They should utilize the time which is being killed by the gadgets.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

I have been in the education sector for around a decade. After having my daughter my priorities changed and while experimenting and taking care of her I realized what I really wanted to do. Hands-on experiment on my daughter and experience in the industry helped me to think and work towards it. As the childhood is the most precious thing and quality education is of utmost importance.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

My startup is based out of Bangalore. I feel this city has all the vibes that a startup needs.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

As a founder, I wanted to do something unique and different. I just don’t want to open another school or activity centre or bring up just another book for them. I wanted to do something where the parent is directly involved.

Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?

There is a lot of competition, but I don’t believe in competition with outsiders. I feel we need to compete with our self and no one else.

How hard is it to have a work-life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

It is difficult for any women to work no matter which position you belong to. My motivation is my daughter she loves me working and feels happy to accompany me in all my meetings and work.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

No not yet. I need money to work in a bigger and better way.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

I am not aware of that.

What gets you excited about this company?

Everything. I feel passionate about the work I am doing, I want to bring in a change and contribute to the society in all possible ways that I can.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

I manage most of the things on my own. My priority is my daughter. I work while she is in school or asleep. For my meetings, I take her along with me. So my day starts and ends with her.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

Currently, mostly I am working alone but I found good people to help me out in the technical aspects of the business. Whenever I feel low it is because of them that I keep going. They always make sure to keep me motivated that things will work out and everything will be fine. They are a constant reason for me to stick to my vision and mission which is to make learning happen everywhere.
