B for Boutique is a Bangalore startup which was started in 2017 by T. Jaya Krishna Prasad, Uppe Srija and  U.S.D Bhavani.

“Our motto is designing impeccable outfits with a budget-friendly price. So we have made our customer’s shopping simple and easy”, says Sreeja.

We got an opportunity to talk with Uppe, the CEO of B for Boutique. And I am sure, you will be inspired by the way her views.

Give a brief info about your startup?

How desperate a girl wants a perfect outfit for her? How many times would she have saved a screenshot of a dress which she liked on the internet and later searching for the same dress online to buy? I was one of the girls who did that and I wanted to put an end to this search.

My idea is by tailor making them right from the selection of fabric to the perfect fit.

My passion for starting a business (“Startup” in modern terminology) came right from my selection of wardrobe for any occasion. “Why didn’t you have a store?” This is the regular question we get from our customers. Well, we are so happy that they want us to set up a store! To visit a boutique, one has to travel to cities which would cost more and if they wanted to stitch the dress they need to visit again. The Internet has certainly given us few more hands to implement those ideas to reality wherein it connects people from different places and different countries, which is just a click away!

“B for Boutique” is specially for the designer within you and yes, we love to see your creativity taking wings! We bring your designs to reality.

As simple as chatting with us, one can design their own models or select from our range of our designs and fabrics (having experienced the surprises from other online merchants by editing the fabric colour and look, we made sure that the fabric shown in our posts are neither edited nor photoshopped). Our motto is designing impeccable outfits with a budget-friendly price. So we have made our customer’s shopping simple and easy.

What made you start your startup and what problem does it solve?

“You really love your job only when you feel excited going to work on Mondays.” I took this line so seriously in my life. When I thought what I’m good at, my love for designs and colours showed me this way.

Tell us about yourself, your previous jobs/ventures? What were you doing before this startup?

Myself Sreeja, B.Tech. I worked as a research editor in an MNC.

Where is your startup based out of? Why do you think that is the best place for you?

The area of opportunity and visitors on the Internet are much vast than that of a store. But how will we implement and succeed this online without a store? That’s the question left us stranded many times. However, the home work we did and the kind of feedback we received from our customers made our idea realistic.

As a startup founder, what are you paranoid about? What keeps you awake at night?

The Fashion industry is growing at a pace and there is no margin for error. Any mistake right from the fabric till the fitting can ruin the end product. This makes me awake during nights. I used to not sleep properly for some days ( This I relate to the excitement we get if we have to go for a nice trip the next day).

Who are your competitions and how are you better than them?

Any clothing business with this similar idea who can bring out the best fit to a dress is our competitor. The impact of what we call the word of mouth from our customers is crucial for our business as we are open to social media.

How hard is it to have a work life balance as a startup founder and how do you manage it?

I have never faced any challenge in balancing work and life because of the support from my friends and family members ( Please don’t think it as a very common answer. I mean it, I really mean it). I believe anyone will be happy if their work is their passion.

Have you raised funding? If yes, then we would like to know the details. If no then please tell us if you are looking to raise.

My business type does not need a fundraising program to start. I have saved enough money to kick start the business online.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?

We have presented everything in such a way that the customer should know what are we doing in reality. Hence, there is no misconception related to the product.

What gets you excited about this company?

Will come across different people with different tastes which will open the doors for my thought process as Fashion is always been an open book.

Tell us how a day in your life looks like? Your schedule for a day right from the time you get up till you hit the bed at night.

Sometimes I feel like I have passed the day for an hour. I never felt the work I am doing is routine.

Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?

We are a team of 8. Six people work for us while I and my sister take care of operations. Me and my sister make a good team as we both are fashion aspirants. My husband Jaya Krishna handles technical and media aspects.
